About us
For dreamers. For nerds. For explorers.
The Idea
Signaturio is a young online shop founded in 2025 in the peaceful little town of Grimma, Saxony, Germany. The idea had been on our minds for several years. And when we say “we”, we primarily mean Janine, the founder and owner of the shop. But since friends, mentors and family have also played a major role in shaping Signaturio and helping it grow into what it is today, it only seems fair to speak of “we”.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2019, the whole world was searching for something to hold on to. We found comfort in books, stories and the wise words of thoughtful people — the kind of words you can find all over the internet, as plentiful as grains of sand by the sea. Along the way, one thing became strikingly clear to us: difficult times have always been part of the human experience. And there have always been people brave enough to face those challenges head-on. One more thing became just as obvious: people have always loved to laugh!
Signaturio was born out of a desire to share these uplifting thoughts with the world. But it soon became clear to us that we didn’t simply want to reproduce the usual quotes found in the countless collections out there. For one thing, a surprising number of them are quoted incorrectly or attributed to entirely the wrong person. And while many quotes are beautiful and profound, they aren’t necessarily suited to everyday life. Quite a few are simply too long, too complex or too wordy.
Bringing the Idea to Life
We decided to focus on quotes that are short and to the point, with the power to make an impression even at a glance. What we particularly love is when quotes written decades or even centuries ago fit modern-day situations like a glove! Or those well-known expressions that originated in historical works, yet few people know where they actually come from. We simply can’t get enough of them.
One thing is especially important to us: every quote must be reproduced accurately. That’s why we regularly dive deep into our sources — not only to introduce you to lesser-known quotes, but also to ensure that we stay as close to the original wording as possible. We also want to make absolutely sure that every quote is attributed to the right person.
And just as carefully as we research our quotes and their sources, we choose the products on which they appear. Before a new product line makes its way into our shop, we put it through its paces ourselves. High-quality materials and long-lasting prints are an absolute must for us. We can’t promise that our T-shirts will last for 500+ years, like a Shakespeare play ;) But that’s certainly the standard we aspire to.
Fast fashion and a throwaway mentality are undoubtedly problems of our time, and we’d love to see them become a thing of the past. Wherever possible, we also look for products made using resource-conscious production methods and backed by reliable, verifiable certifications.
The Signatures
So, what’s the story behind the signatures? It’s quite simple: a signature is a person’s calling card. No two are alike. There’s one thing about immersing ourselves in the words and works of great minds. But the handwritten signatures they left behind on letters and documents are something else entirely — almost like a personal fingerprint. That’s why we think they’re the perfect finishing touch for a quote or saying design. After all, what could make a quote feel more authentic than the actual signature of the person who said or wrote it?
And if you’ve picked one of our cheekier quote designs and someone happens to take offense, isn’t it nice to be able to point to the signature beneath the quote? Hey, those aren’t your words — take it up with whoever said or wrote them! ;)
The Journey Continues
For us, Signaturio is a wonderful journey filled with new discoveries. Whether you’re here for a little inspiration, looking for the perfect gift, or simply browsing to escape the world for a while, we hope you’ll discover something new along the way, too — and, above all, have fun doing it!
So many people before us have felt, suffered and laughed, just as we do today. Let’s draw inspiration from their strength, their creativity and their sense of humour. Let’s share their words and ideas with the world and bring them into our everyday lives. Step by step, we might just find solutions to the challenges of our time. Or, at the very least, have a good laugh along the way. :)
