Who was...?
Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775, in Steventon, England, and began her first literary experiments at the age of twelve. She used the everyday life and social conventions of her time as the stage for her works.
Her novels are characterized by subtle irony, keen observation, and timeless themes. In works such as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma, Jane Austen combined love stories with insightful social analysis. Her characters struggle with self-determination, reason, and emotion—topics that remain familiar to us today and give her stories a surprisingly modern feel.
