Who was...?
William Shakespeare, believed to have been born in April 1564 in London, was an English playwright, poet, and actor and is regarded as one of the most significant authors in world literature. He worked primarily in London and was a co-owner of the Globe Theatre. His most famous works include tragedies such as Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet, as well as numerous comedies and history plays.
Only a few reliable historical sources exist about Shakespeare’s life. These gaps have given rise to many myths and speculations concerning his origins, education, and even the true authorship of his works. Regardless of these uncertainties, his writings continue to shape literature, theater, and film to this day.
