Who was...?

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn made Mark Twain one of the most renowned American writers. With subtle satire, humor, and sharp social observation, he portrayed life along the Mississippi River, social injustice, and the freedom of a child’s perspective on the world. Characters such as Tom, Huck, and Jim are vivid and distinctive, continuing to influence literature, film, and popular culture to this day.

Mark Twain, born Samuel Langhorne Clemens on 30 November 1835, in Florida, Missouri, grew up in Hannibal on the Mississippi River—a town that became the setting for many of his stories. Twain worked as a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi, as well as a reporter and humorist.

His works combine adventure, social critique, and masterful storytelling, shaping American literature like those of few other authors.
